## How big is the problem of late payment?

Every accounting system is built to produce an invoice, and then to reconcile the payment once it arrives. Xero and QuickBooks both do that well. The gap is the middle, where somebody has to notice an invoice is late and decide what to do about it. In most small businesses that is still a person with a spreadsheet and a calendar reminder, and that person is usually doing four other jobs as well.

So the follow-up happens late, or inconsistently, or not at all, and the customer learns that this supplier can be paid last.

This is the gap that Paidnice's [credit control software](https://www.paidnice.com/credit-control-software) closes.

## $1 billion collected on time

Businesses running Paidnice have now reached **$1 billion collected on time across more than 1 million invoices since 2022**.

Paidnice measures that figure as the all-time value of invoices it worked that are now marked paid: reminded, put on a statement, charged a late fee or interest, offered a prompt payment discount, put on a payment plan, or escalated. Invoices paid without any Paidnice action are not counted.

Every one of those invoices went through a policy that somebody set up once and then left running. A reminder goes out before the due date. A statement lands on the first of the month. A late fee applies at day seven if that is what the terms say, and it posts to the ledger in Xero so the customer's accounts payable team can see it. A customer who cannot pay in full is offered a payment plan instead of an escalation. Statement interest, including [UK statutory interest](https://www.paidnice.com/uk/statutory-interest-calculator) at the Bank of England base rate plus 8%, is recalculated on the morning the statement is sent, so the figure the customer opens is accurate that day.

Across the customer base, businesses running Paidnice see half as many late invoices in the first 30 days. Eight in ten invoices get paid on time. Customers cut overdue invoices by 70% in their first 30 days, and finance teams reduce manual chasing by up to 90%.

## Named New Zealand Small Business App of the Year

Xero has named Paidnice the winner of 🏆 **New Zealand Small Business App of the Year** in the [Xero Global App Awards 2026](https://www.paidnice.com/blog/winner-xero-global-app-awards-2026). This follows Paidnice winning Global Small Business App of the Year and Australia Small Business App of the Year in 2025.

Before the winners were decided, Paidnice was a [finalist in four 2026 categories](https://www.paidnice.com/blog/xero-global-app-awards-2026-finalist):

- Innovation App of the Year (global), alongside ShiftCare, Weel, and XBert
- Small Business App of the Year, United Kingdom
- Small Business App of the Year, United States
- Small Business App of the Year, New Zealand

The UK, the US, and New Zealand run different payment cultures: different terms, different norms, different tolerance for charging a late fee. Being shortlisted in all three at once suggests the gap between invoice and payment looks much the same wherever a business trades.

On the Xero App Store, Paidnice holds a 5.0 average from 83 reviews.

## What it looks like for one firm

Irene Bennetts, founder and CEO of the New Zealand bookkeeping firm [Admin Army](https://adminarmy.co.nz/), has implemented Paidnice across her client base:

> "The feature set itself fills genuine gaps that Xero users have been frustrated by for years. Automated statement sending alone is worth the entry price. But it goes further: prompt payment discounts that apply automatically, late fees and interest that take care of themselves, and payment plans where every decision is clearly documented. Parent companies receiving communications for all child accounts, chasing restricted to a specific 10-day window each month. These aren't edge cases to Paidnice. They're just configuration options."

## What Paidnice is doing next

> "The billion belongs to the people who set the policies. Business owners, credit controllers, bookkeepers, and office managers who decided to stop absorbing late payment, wrote their terms down, and then held to them. Our AI credit control is now in beta. It follows up overdue invoices, reads the replies that come back, drafts a response, and escalates when it needs to, with a human approving anything before it sends. I expect the next billion to take a good deal less than three years."Denym Bird, Co-founder and CEO, Paidnice

Early access to [AI credit control](https://www.paidnice.com/credit-control-ai) is open now. [Read about early access](https://www.paidnice.com/blog/ai-credit-controller-early-access).

You set the terms once. Paidnice applies them.
