# Invoice Reminder

## What is an invoice reminder?

**An invoice reminder is a message sent to a customer before or after an invoice's due date to prompt payment, usually by email or SMS.** It is about one invoice and asks for the money. Most reminders go out a set number of days before the due date, on the due date, or a set number of days after it.

A reminder is one message. [Dunning](https://www.paidnice.com/dictionary/dunning) is the planned sequence of messages that escalates from a first nudge to a final notice, and a reminder is the first step in it. Reminders on their own stop when the schedule ends, so someone still has to follow up on invoices that stay unpaid.
