How to take a deposit on a Xero invoice
Xero has no installment schedule on an invoice. Its nearest tools are a deposit request and, through Stripe, buy now pay later. These are the steps for a deposit. To split an invoice manually, see our guide to payment plans in Xero.

Set a plan fee as a percentage or a fixed amount, or leave it off. In Xero it goes to its own revenue account, and the invoice total goes up by the fee.

Can I set up a payment plan or instalments for a Xero invoice?
Not in Xero on its own: an invoice has one due date. Paidnice splits an approved Xero invoice with no payments on it into installments, weekly to quarterly.
What does a payment plan look like on the Xero invoice?
Paidnice writes the schedule onto the invoice as a zero-value line and moves the due date to the next installment. The total only changes if you add a plan fee.
What if a customer misses an installment on a Xero plan?
The invoice goes overdue in Xero from that installment date, and the customer group’s overdue reminders, escalations and fees pick it up.
Can customers set up their own payment plan?
Yes, in the portal, when their group allows it. You set the most payments, the frequency, the first payment dates and who qualifies.
Can Stripe take each installment automatically?
Yes. Connect Stripe, and the customer can turn on Autopay from the portal. Stripe then takes each installment on its due date.
