Summary
Odoo is a flexible ledger with follow-up levels, statements and a customer portal built in. SMS and posted letters need prepaid credits, SMS does not reach many countries, and late fees need a third-party module. Credit control software covers reading replies, holding the chase for a promised date, and escalating quiet accounts.
- Paidnice: Best for teams that want the whole chase handled. Paidnice reads each reply with AI and drafts the answer for a person to approve, sends SMS to any valid mobile number worldwide, and posts fees to Odoo. Credit checks through your Creditsafe API connection, on the Custom plan.
- Chaser: Best for UK firms that want phone calls in the chase as well as email, SMS and post. From $259/month.
- Kolleno: Best for groups over £100M turnover whose hardest job is matching payments to invoices. Its strength is cash application, with credit scoring built in. Price on request.
- Odoo on its own: Email follow-ups, statements and a portal come in the Accounting app. Odoo cannot send SMS to many countries, including the US, Canada and Australia.
Paidnice connects to your ERP on the Custom plan. Book a demo on your own data, and a specialist sets up the connection.
Credit control software for Odoo adds the work that Odoo's follow-up levels leave once a customer writes back. It reads the reply, holds the next reminder for a promised date, and charges a late fee.
Odoo schedules reminders by email, with SMS and letters on prepaid credit. Three tools connect to Odoo for the rest: Paidnice, Chaser and Kolleno. Book a demo to see Paidnice on your own Odoo ledger.
What does Odoo include for credit control by default?
The Odoo Accounting app includes follow-up levels, customer statements, a payment portal and email sending in the base plan. SMS needs prepaid credit, credit limits only warn, per an Odoo forum answer for v19, and the documentation describes no late fee.

Each follow-up level fires a set number of days after the due date, or before it with a negative number. An Automatic option runs the level without a person and attaches the overdue invoices. Reconcile your bank transactions first, or Odoo's note says reminders go to customers who have already paid.
What needs an add-on in Odoo?
Three things sit outside the base Accounting app: In-App Purchase credits for SMS, WhatsApp and letters, the Enterprise-only WhatsApp app, and third-party App Store modules for Community follow-ups and interest.
In-App Purchase credits
Adds SMS, WhatsApp and posted letters to a follow-up level. Email reminders need no credit. A posted letter consumes one stamp per document, eight pages at most, with no price on the page. Source: Odoo, In-App Purchase, SMS pricing and Snailmail.
WhatsApp app
Adds WhatsApp as a follow-up channel with its own template per level. Source: Odoo, WhatsApp and Payment follow-up.
Third-party App Store modules
The Community code base on GitHub has no follow-up module in 19.0, so Community sites add one from the Odoo App Store. Interest and late fee modules are listed the same way. The FAQ on one store listing says third-party apps cannot be installed on Odoo Online; listings differ, so check each module's Availability line.
What does Odoo's native setup still miss?
Odoo covers the send. Once a customer replies, the rest is manual work in chatter, email and the activity list, and customers in many countries never get an SMS at all.
Odoo's SMS pricing page lists the unsupported markets. Odoo cannot send SMS to many countries, including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. After the reply, the work is manual:
- Read the reply. Odoo's follow-up page adds followers so a reply notifies them, and nothing sorts it into a promise, a query or a dispute. A promise nobody logs never reaches the cash forecast.
- Type the promised date in. A person edits the Next Reminder date by hand, or flips the 17.0 Exclude from Follow-ups switch. Until then, the next level fires on schedule.
- Re-assign the activity by hand. Each level names one Responsible user in the Activity tab, and the documentation describes nothing that escalates past them. A quiet account stays on one person's list.
- Buy credits before SMS or post. SMS, WhatsApp and letters need prepaid In-App Purchase credit. A posted letter consumes one stamp per document, eight pages at most, and waits on the balance.
- Raise the fee yourself. Odoo's follow-up documentation describes no fee or interest, and App Store interest modules differ on whether they run on Odoo Online. A fee means a person raising a charge.
Where Paidnice fits: if you want to...
Paidnice runs with Odoo on the Custom plan. It takes over where a follow-up level stops: the reply, the hold, the fee and the hand-off.
| If you want to... | Odoo plus add-ons | Paidnice |
|---|---|---|
| Stop chasing when a payment posts | PartialReconcile the bank first | YesInstant sync |
| Read replies and log a promised date | Not in the docsDocs describe none | YesRun pauses to the date |
| Post late fees as invoices | ModuleOnline varies | YesDraft or Approved |
| Send SMS to US, AU and NZ customers | NoUnsupported countries | YesDedicated routes |
| Send posted letters | YesOne stamp per document | YesFinal notice by post |
| Hand quiet accounts to an owner | PartialOne owner per level | YesEscalation to the owner |
| Chase by customer group | Not in the docsDocs describe none | YesSchedule per group |
Paidnice is good for you if you want to:
- Stop chasing the moment Odoo says paid. Paidnice syncs invoices, payments and credit notes with Odoo instantly, so a payment posted in Odoo stops chasing straight away.
- Reach the countries Odoo's SMS credits cannot. Email and SMS reminders and posted letters run on one schedule per customer group, with dedicated SMS routes for the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand.
- Have the reply read and the run held. Paidnice reads the reply, drafts the response for a person to approve, logs the expected payment date and pauses chasing until it passes.
- Post fees and interest to Odoo as invoices. Fees and interest post Draft or Approved from a policy per customer group, with UK interest indexed to the Bank of England base rate. A posted fee is leverage: it enters the customer's payables and payment run.
- Hand the account to a named owner. Paidnice escalations pass the account to its owner at the day count or balance you set, and can send a final notice by post.
Paidnice customers cut their average wait for payment in half, within 30 days. Odoo runs on the Custom plan. Credit checks through your Creditsafe API connection, an implementation specialist and a dedicated account manager come with it.

How to choose credit control software for Odoo
Pick a tool that syncs with Odoo both ways, reaches every market you sell into, holds chasing on a promise, and posts fees to the ledger.
Ask each vendor these six questions.
- Does a payment posted in Odoo stop the chase? Two-way sync is the essential. Odoo's own note asks you to reconcile the bank first.
- Can it send SMS to customers in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand? Odoo's SMS pricing page lists all four as unsupported, with many other countries.
- Does a reply with a date pause the sequence? In Odoo, a person edits the Next Reminder date on the customer record by hand.
- What happens after the last follow-up level? Odoo names one Responsible user per level. Look for an escalation ladder that ends with a named owner and a posted final notice.
- Do fees and interest post as invoices in Odoo? Keep the balance in Odoo equal to the balance the customer owes.
- Does it connect without installing a module in Odoo? App Store listings differ on Odoo Online support, so ask how the connection is made.
Nice to have: a customer portal with a payment link, consolidated parent and child statements, and credit checks.
See Paidnice on your Odoo ledger
A Paidnice demo runs on your own Odoo ledger before anything goes live. It shows which accounts Paidnice would chase first, how a reply holds the run to the promised date, and how a payment posted in Odoo stops the chase.
Book a demo and bring your Odoo data. After the demo, an implementation specialist sets up the connection and maps your customer groups and templates, including SMS to the countries Odoo's credits cannot reach.

Odoo credit control: common questions
Short answers on Odoo's follow-up levels, SMS and letter credits, late fees, Community sites and the Paidnice connection.
Does Odoo send payment reminders automatically?
Yes. In the Accounting app, each follow-up level carries a day count and an Automatic option, so the level runs without a person and attaches the overdue invoices. Odoo's 19.0 documentation asks you to reconcile bank transactions first, so paid customers get no reminder.
Can Odoo send reminders by SMS or post?
Yes, on prepaid In-App Purchase credit. SMS cost varies by country and length; a UK message costs 0.0867 credits and arrives from the sender name "Odoo". Odoo cannot send SMS to many countries, including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. A posted letter consumes one stamp per document and runs to eight pages at most.
Can Odoo charge late fees or interest on overdue invoices?
Odoo's 19.0 follow-up documentation describes no fee or interest on a follow-up level, and third-party interest modules on the Odoo App Store differ on Odoo Online support, so check each listing. Paidnice raises the fee from a policy and posts it to Odoo as an invoice, Draft or Approved.
Does Odoo Community have payment follow-ups?
The Community code base on GitHub has no follow-up module in 19.0. Community sites add a third-party follow-up app from the Odoo App Store. One example is the Customer Follow-up for Community module, listed at EUR 29 for 19.0, on a database that allows third-party apps.
Does Paidnice connect to Odoo?
Yes, on the Custom plan. Invoices, payments and credit notes sync instantly, and fees post back as invoices. Reminders, SMS to the countries Odoo's credits cannot reach, posted letters, parent and child statements and escalations run from your Odoo ledger.
